I've been eyeing off the N1 jacket for over a year and finally had the $ to pull the trigger. As always Tellason's shipping is fantastic, delivered to Australia in a week. My first impression of the jacket is that it's a thoughtful interpretation of the N1 style and is beautifully constructed. I'd say this is going to last for many years. I've bought Tellason Jeans and denim jackets over the years and they get better with age, so I'm sure the N1 will be similar. The only downside is that we are entering Spring in Sydney so I might have to wait until Autumn to be able to wear it regularly. I've worn it a few times on my motorcycle commute to work and it's warm. The internal cuffs also do a fantastic job of blocking the wind from going up the sleeve. The large internal pocket is also a great design element. It would be great if the lining was real wool, but I appreciate that would significantly add to the cost.
Fit and finish are best in class. Great cut, roomy enough for my middle aged weight. Love the zipper / button combo. Can’t say enough good things about it. Great
Nice jacket, sturdy denim material and nice warm shearling inside. Huge inside pocket and nice hand warmer pocket outside.
Like all Tellason clothing I have received, the quality, fit and finish is SUPERB! Body shape (Fit) 5'8 200 lbs XL fit best, with room for a heavy flannel.
Tough, warm coat suitable for fall, mild winter, spring. Incredible build quality. I’m 5’10” 180 lbs. The medium fits in a nicely tailored fashion.
I’ve bought several jeans and jackets from Tellason and their quality is always outstanding, but this is the best of the bunch. The fabric is beautiful, heavy but with a fine, tight weave and a subtle shade of black. The Sherpa lining is also a great color and feel. Buttons are heavy and solid too. It’s made to last. The fit is more classic than modern, with a cropped length and wide body. I’m 180lbs and 5’11”. I originally got a medium but with the heavy fabric and fit, it felt too constraining and I didn’t love the look. I returned it for a large and loved it. I got compliments the first time I wore it out. If you google old pictures of this style you’ll see it a meant to be worn a bit big, or at least to me it feels better that way. It definitely needs some breaking in and I’m still early in the process. But it makes me smile every time I put it on. :)
With a flood of N1’s hitting the market this year, I spent a bit of time obsessing over the right choice. I went with the Blubaugh over some higher priced jackets based mostly on the use of 14oz selvedge over the variety of waxed/non-waxed canvas offerings. I don’t plan on relying on the jacket in wet weather, so so need for waxing and the black selvedge should age into a cool aesthetic. High marks: Build is top self. The use of low friction materials inside the sleeves is key for layering. Lots of other flannel or sherpa lined jackets out there, I hate reaching for my jacket at a bar only to require assistance to get the thing on without dislocating my shoulder. The fit is in line with the size chart (I returned and sized up, but I’m tricky fit… big back and shoulders… going off chest size (me:48”) large ended up being too tight. This is more about shoulders and back width, not chest). The overbuilt zippers are an outstanding choice. The internal cuffs are perfect for wearing gloves while riding. Internal pockets work great for phone/wallet while riding as well. Originally I was a bit underwhelmed with the collar. The sherpa is pretty low profile and the collar is relatively small and nondescript (compared to some of the other N1s out there). After riding around a cold day I changed my tune. You’re trading some aesthetic appeal for functionality and helmet compatibility. Final thoughts: Tellason’s N1 has a “time honored design and construction” vibe to it… like they been making the same jacket for 50 years. If you’re looking for flashy details, you might look in a different direction. If you want a workhorse that’s going to crease and fade in that selvedge way, this is a GREAT option and a brilliant price.
Looking forward to killing this one! I’m about 170 6’2 and was in between the medium and the large but the large fits perfect and allows me to layer it if needed. This will be a good winter riding jacket for sure.
I really love how heavy duty this jacket feels, great hardware and I think as this breaks in will look better and better, I have a size large which sadly does not have a double zipper, so minus one star, but if you're after a unique and high quality jacket that will absolutely go the distance look no further, I've already worn this in some rain, and cooler weather down in the 40's over just a t shirt and it's been perfect.
