A NOTE FROM PETE & TONY

I was on the phone with a customer yesterday about this, that, or the other. I think I called him to see if he fat-fingered his order with us by ordering three pairs of our Ankara jeans. He said "no" and that he was happy to see this old standard blue jean fit that was still made in the U.S. He also said that this fit was hard to find and that most denim companies making great jeans here are focusing on slimmer cuts for "young dudes" as he put it. I did not necessarily agree with him but the fact of the matter is that a proper straight leg fit just works. It did 100 years ago and it still does today. You may only wear skinny stuff but I swear, try this old fit out again and see why it is the five pocket jean that brought this whole denim party to the dance in the first place.

    amazing quality

Perfect fit for me, I tried the Blubaugh first and they were a little too snug. These fit my legs great, I have a 32inch waist with muscular athletic legs and the Ankara's are the perfect cut for athletic builds that don't want them tight. As for the customer service, Tony was great. I sent 2 pairs back in for hemming and they turned them around in one day and also my refund for the first set of jeans i ordered was credited promptly. Very easy online transaction!

    2 weeks in

these fit great! Andi cant wait to fully break them in. The only concern i have is the eyelets for the button fly are NOT reinforced with thread and it feels like with an over vigorous pulling ( ie emergency peeps ) the eyelets might just rip... I dont have any other button flys that don't have extra stitching around the button holes. the fit though... nice and roomy in the thighs.

    Tough as nails

My 16.5 Oz Ankara denim pants are tough as nails. I work hard, and these pants keep up with my daily routine. These are the only pants I wear, frankly, the only pants I have to my name. I have 4 pair of Tellason 16.5 Ankara denim pants to my name. Two pairs of 34( summer size) and two pair of 35.(winter size) . There is no need for a closet full of denim. These jeans are meant to be worn everyday, meant to be worn hard. The size is spot on, true to size. American made, in the American CMWO or the Proprietary Japanese Denim, high quality denim that just can’t be beat.

Finally figured out my size in these. Very happy with them.

I've only now noticed that this denim is described both as "raw" and "sanforized", something I would have thought a contradiction in terms. I'm used to raw selvedge denims shrinking 2 inches in the waist the first time they going in the dryer. These won't do that, and until now I'd put that down to the thickness of the material. 32-inch waist wouldn't shrink enough, so I gave those to a lucky friend with a larger waist and ordered 31-inch. Unwashed, they're just a tiny bit loose. My one-time-only inaugural machine-dry should take care of that perfectly. Otherwise, these are my idea of the Platonic Ideal of American jeans, and, amazingly, they actually are 100% American jeans, made in San Francisco from American fabric. My only worry now is that with Cone Mills shut down, I'm going to be tempted to stockpile

    For guys with thighs!

Posted by Lance on 4th Feb 2019

I'm so happy with my purchase! I swear I've been looking for the perfect jeans for years and I finally found them. All the other jeans I've tried are too tight in the thighs. These fit perfect! Amazing fit and American made. What more could you ask for.

    3rd year, 3rd pair

Each year i buy these jeans. Im built like a linebacker so jeans are hard to find. These make the grade. I wear them everyday. I work in a manufacturing and warehousing. I have a desk and i am on the floor for work and they hold up perfectly. I even hunted in them last year. They werent lucky but they held up in the desert. Nothing stops cactus but its a cool story and they didnt rip apart.

    cool, but very tough fabric

Posted by James Dylan on 25th Mar 2018

Hard to write a review for a pair of jeans that will last me 20+ years, all I can review is the first week I’ve had them. My father always told me; “If you want to buy something you will use a long time, then buy the best possible version of it you can afford.” I used that advice to buy these jeans, as the fabric is very, very tough; the jeans could almost stand up by themselves. I don’t know how long it will take for them to break in. I like them so far, wore them a few days, but they are so stiff, I’m walking around looking like I have knee damage, and I can barely climb into my Jeep, ha ha. I want to wear these awhile and get them somewhat broken in, but it looks like I’ll order more. Strong thick fabric, perfect sewing and stiching... One thing: the legs are very long. I’m 6’1 or 72 inches tall, and I swear there is about 7 inches of denim I need to hem. The hemming will cost me about $20 here in Hawaii, if I can find a place that has a machine strong enough for this fabric. Company said I could mail them in to them, which is cheaper, so I’ll probably end up doing that.
